About TAMA
A community nonprofit keeping Telugu language and culture alive in metro Atlanta since 1981.
Our story
TAMA began in 1981, when Telugu families in metro Atlanta started meeting in each other's homes. As the community grew, so did the need for a shared home. TAMA became that home.
Over the years it has grown into an integral part of the Telugu community here, and an active participant in wider Indian community events, like the Festival of India held for India's Independence Day.
What TAMA does today
- Festivals and culture: Sankranthi, Ugadi, Bathukamma, Dussehra, and Deepavali celebrations with dances, skits, plays, singing, and music.
- Kids and learning: KidsFest competitions for children of all ages, and Mana Badi, a volunteer-run Telugu school for young kids held on weekends.
- Literary and arts: Sahiti Sadassu literary meets, musical nights, and Telugu movie screenings.
- Community care: a Free Medical Clinic for the uninsured, plus volunteer service programs.
- Togetherness: a summer picnic, sports tournaments, and social hours to meet other families.
How we are run
TAMA is led by an Executive Committee elected at the end of each year. The committee serves from January 1 to December 31, with support from volunteer subcommittees.
